At Millway Medical Practice we are proud to be a parkrun practice.

Our local parkrun is held in Canons Park every Saturday morning at 9am.

parkrun is a free, community event where you can walk, jog, run, volunteer or spectate. parkrun is 5k and takes place every Saturday morning. junior parkrun is 2k, dedicated to 4-14 year olds and their families, every Sunday morning.

parkrun is positive, welcoming and inclusive, there is no time limit and no one finishes last. Everyone is welcome to come along.

In the UK, physical inactivity is the fourth greatest cause of ill health with negative impacts on health, social and economic outcomes for individuals and communities. It is responsible for 1 in 6 UK deaths, which is equivalent to smoking. Importantly, up to 40% of long term conditions could be prevented if everyone met the UK Chief Medical Officer’s physical activity recommendations.

parkrun UK is a non-profit organisation that organises free, weekly 5k events every Saturday morning in areas of open space.

parkrun UK and the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP) launched the pioneering and successful ‘parkrun practice’ initiative in 2018. Under this initiative, GP practices of all sizes are encouraged to develop close links with their local parkrun event/s to become ‘parkrun practices’. So far, over 1,500 GP practices around the UK have signed up.

Parkrun practice aims to promote the health and wellbeing of staff, patients and carers through walking, running, volunteering or spectating at parkrun events.

Research has shown that participation in parkrun has wide ranging health and wellbeing benefits, including through increased levels of activity, improved physical and mental health, increased levels of happiness, increased confidence and self-esteem, the building of friendships and social connections, personal empowerment and skill development through volunteering. In addition to the personal and population benefits to health and wellbeing, the initiative supports the move towards social prescribing, raises awareness amongst the parkrun community of services that practices provide and creates entire communities centred on wellness.
